Building the
Website
So you have enough
content to build an entire website. Now comes the part
where you create the webpages, buy a domain name and get
a hosting service.
This part is the
most intimidating for many beginning web entrepreneurs.
The truth is learning HTML is not really that difficult.
You just have to invest time and some patience. If you
want to build your website on your own, nothing beats
learning HTML and hand coding the webpages. The advantage
is that you will have a deep understanding of how it
works and you will likely produce cleaner code than most
HTML editors like Dreamweaver or
Frontpage.
But if you don't
want to learn or don't have time to learn HTML,
Javascript, CSS, XML and all those fancy sounding
languages, there are a few alternatives for you. One is
using HTML editors like the ones mentioned
above.
HTML editors are
designed so you can build websites by using a software
very similar to a word
processor. These types of
software programs are also called
WYSIWYG (What you see is what you get) HTML Editors. (You
can edit HTML using notepad but you will have to
understand how the language
works.)
Dreamweaver is the
tool of choice of professional web developers as it gives
the user a lot of freedom in tinkering with the code. The
learning curve for Dreamweaver can be steep and you must
understand how programming languages function. For the
rest of us mortals, there's a great alternative that's
easy to use.
If you know how to
use a word processor like MS Word, then you won't have a
hard time learning Xsitepro. It's user friendly and
you'll find many great reviews about this software all
over the Internet. It comes with an easy to follow
tutorial and a comprehensive manual if you're interested
in the details. If you plan on building a lot
of websites quickly, then you
might want to consider using this
software.
Others hire
professional web developers. This is arguably the fastest
way to do it. But then you will have to shell out a
considerable amount of money before your website goes
live. Also, you will miss out the valuable learning that
building your website yourself gives.
After creating the
pages you can now proceed to buy a domain name for your
website. You can get domain names for a little less than
$10 USD. The rule of thumb when buying a domain name is
that it must be easy to
remember. A good quality
test when choosing your new domain name is the "Radio
Test" ask your self if you heard someone say this domain
name on the radio would you be able to understand it and
remember it? If it
contains the keyword/s you are targeting, that would be a
bonus.
Once you have
acquired a domain name you are happy with, the next step
would be to find a host for your webpages. You need a
host that's always on so people would be able to access
your website 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Web hosting
is no longer expensive these days. For only
$9.95 per
month or less, you
can get a host that allows unlimited websites and
bandwidth. We recommend Hostgator.com as we have had a
wonderful experience with
their service.
Alternatively, and
this is the easiest way for
most beginners
, you can get
Site Build It so you won't have to worry about buying a
domain name and finding a host separately. It is an all
in one solution that will help you easily build
a top
ranking website from
the ground up. Learn more about Site Build It
